To bring your weapons into Sweden

Information regarding permission for the usage of hunting and target-shooting weapons toghether with ammunition in Sweden.
When inviting foreign or target-shooting friends, the host should observe the following:
A person travelling to Sweden may take weapons into the country providing permission has been granted prior to the journey.
Danish, Finnish and Norwegian citizens who are domiciled outside Sweden may take hunting and competition weapons into the country without any special permission. Please observe that the citizen concer-ned should be able to provide proof that an invitation to a hunt or shoo-ting competition has been made. The invitation and weapon license is to be presented to the Custom Authorities in the area where the weapon is brought into Sweden.
For practical reasons the Authorities allow the Swedish organisers for hunting or competition shooting to apply for permission for their Non-Scandinavian guests.
The following information is compulsory when applying for permis-sion:
 
The brand /manufacturer of the weapon, serial number and calibre.
 
What purpose the weapon will be used for and the period of vali-dity in Sweden.
 
Earliest day of arrival and latest day of departure including flightnumber or name of the ship.
 
The amount of ammunition and calibre.
 
The applicants name, date of birth, address and country
 
The name of the hunting host/competition organiser together with address and telephone number.
 
Where hunting grounds or site of competition are situated.
 
Border Station where weapons will be taken in and out of the country.
 
Hunting certificate or hunting/target-shooting invitation.
 
If the foreign guest has any form of license or certificate for the weapons then a photocopy of this should be sent with the appli-cation.
If any of the above information is incomplete then the application will be returned thus risking that the matter will not be dealt with before the guest arrives.
 
How to apply
The application should arrive at the Police Authority at least four weeks before the arrival of the hunting guest.
 
A service charge of 600 SEK for each permit is to be paid when the application is made. (Ordinance Act 1992: 191.)
 
For Stockholm County, except Arlanda, it’s Polismyndigheten i Stockholms län, OTI, 106 75 Stockholm, Post Giro 11 48 75-8, that handles the permit.

If the applicant will travel by air and arrive to Arlanda airport, then the fee can be paid via Post Giro 13 53 96-0 in connection with the application. Please write "Conveyance of weapons" on the talon to-gether with the name/s of the applicants. It is also possible to pay the fee in cash when the application is submitted. If the administration fee is not paid then the application will not be considered and the entry permit will not be granted.
 
If the applicant arrives to Sweden by boat or other means outside Stockholm County, then apply and pay for the permit at the police in that location.
 
By agreement between the Police and Customs Authorities at Arlanda International Airport the following apply:
The original documents are to be collected from the Customs Office, situated at the Customs Filter, by the hunting or target-shooting guest.
 
On departure the foreign guest should present the weapons for Customs in order to receive a stamp and to obtain permission for its departure. The personnel of Arlanda in connection with Check-In of baggage control this procedure.
